IP Academy and Renmin University to Cooperate on IP Training and Competency Development

On 3 June 2017, IP Academy Singapore and Renmin University of China entered into an agreement for strategic collaboration in intellectual property training and competency development.

The agreement was signed by Mr Daren Tang, Chairman of IP Academy and Chief Executive of the IP Office of Singapore, and Professor Liu Chuntian, Dean of Renmin University’s IP Academy, at the China IP Law Research Association Forum 2017 held in Beijing, China.

The collaboration will see IP Academy and Renmin University – one of China’s leading universities – cooperate to organise IP-related events, conferences, and industry trainings in China and Singapore for students, businesses, and government organisations.

These programmes will focus on the importance of intellectual property protection for economic development, value creation, innovation, and the protection of consumer rights.

Additionally, the two organisations will offer international graduate school programmes on IP at the main campus and Shenzhen campus of Renmin University, short training programmes curated by Renmin University and IP Academy for graduate students of Renmin University, as well as mutual recognition of training programmes for Renmin University and IP Academy students.

This agreement is part of numerous partnerships that IP Academy has entered into recently with institutions from China, as part of efforts to broaden the Academy’s reach into the region and beyond. Other agreements forged since 2014 include those with the Sino-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City, Guangzhou’s Jinan University, and the Hong Kong-based International IP Commercialisation Council.
